Like so many wines in this vintage, the 2016 delivers serious flavor intensity, but with no excess weight. Smoke, gravel, chocolate, graphite, licorice, leather, black cherry and grilled herbs open up first as the wine shows off its extraordinary aromatic palette. In fact, the 2016 is one of the best recent Pichon-Barons I can remember tasting. The 2016 Pichon-Longueville Baron is fabulous.

Full body, ultra-polished yet powerful tannins and a glorious finish. It’s a remake of the legendary 1990 Pichon Baron. I have been waiting for this for a long time. This is a majestic Pichon-Baron and it may well to surpass both the 2009 or 2010. The aftertaste is incredibly long, lingering after two or three minutes in the mouth. There is a wonderful structure here, unapologetically classic in style with just the right amount of austerity on the aristocratic finish. The palate is medium-bodied with a very tensile opening, that seam of graphite penetrating the black fruit. It has a very intense, extremely pure bouquet with blackberry, bilberry, cedar and graphite notes it is a straight-down-the-fairway Pauillac. This will give lovers of this famed estate huge pleasure. The tannins provide breadth, but without excess. Not the cool fruit character that some of the 2016s have, this is all about mocha and dark forest fruits. A sweetly intense wine, with a great degree of generosity and real succulence. Once again this is a property that navigated the tribulations of the vintage with great skill and the results speak for themselves, in short archetypal Pauillac.Ī very exuberant Pichon Baron, full of abundant dark cherry fruits. The fruit for the grand vin now comes from a specific vineyard opposite Chateau Latour and its pedigree is abundantly evident. The Cabernet Sauvignon rich blend offers notes of pure cassis and dark chocolate the softer Merlot fruit enrobes the palate and enriches the tantalizing finish. A wine of great intensity, velvety texture and lingering finish, it is a wonderful addition to the lineage of this great Medoc estate.
